David Danced Before the Lord

We made these dancing King Davids to illustrate how he danced before the Lord when the Ark of the Covenant was brought back to Jerusalem.

In 2 Samuel 6, David had the Ark of the Covenant brought back to Jerusalem and the whole city rejoiced, because the Ark represented the presence of God. People were playing instruments of all kind, and King David was praising God with everything in him, dancing and whirling around. His own wife was embarrassed, but he didn't care. Sometimes we care too much what other people think, but the Lord resists the proud and gives grace to the humble! (Prov. 3:34, 1 Peter 5:5, James 4:6)

These dancing King Davids are a body with paper-chain arms and legs and a popsicle-stick handle. The body is best made from card stock, if you have it, but regular paper works too.

Materials:

  • King David template

  • Strips of paper for the paper chain arms and legs

  • Scissors

  • Glue sticks

  • Crayons or markers

Directions:

  • Color and cut out the King David body.

  • Make paper chains for the arms and legs (no set length).

  • Glue the chains onto the body.

  • Glue the popsicle stick to the body.

  • Make him dance by shaking him up, down and around. Play some music!
