Jesus and the Woman at the Well (also Isaac's Wells)

Making a well is a fun craft that you can use for the story of Jesus and the woman at the well (John 4), for Isaac who dug wells that the Philistines kept filling up (Gen. 26), or other stories that feature wells.

A large Styrofoam cup (or any cup) can be covered with "stones" to make the well. Download a template for the paper to wrap about a 20-oz. cup here.

We used six drops, with a word on each drop. We used our memory verse, "Let us be kind to everyone" (Eph. 6:10), but you could white-out the words and write in any other verse you wanted to use. Download the drops here.

Punch holes in the top of the drops for kids to string the yarn through. Try to get them to lay the drops/words out in the correct order first, so it'll be easier to string them in the right order. Tie a knot on each drop to keep it in place on the string of yarn. For younger kids, you can skip this step altogether and just let them put the loose drops in the cup.

PREP:

Resize template 1 as needed to fit the cups you use. Copy Templates 1 and 2 onto card stock. (We used brown and blue paper, respectively.)

Cut lengths of yarn about 30".

MATERIALS NEEDED:

Medium to large-size cups

Glue sticks

Crayons or markers

Scissors

Hole puncher (for you)

DIRECTIONS:

1. Color the stone cup covering, if desired.

2. Glue-stick the back of the cup covering and stick onto cup. (You will probably have to help them!)

3. Cut out the water drops.

4. With a hole puncher, punch holes in the top of the drops.

5. String the drops onto the yarn.

6. Put the drops into the cup so that when you pull the string, the drops come out to reveal the memory verse.
